Abstract
This paper investigates the poverty impact and the fiscal costs of basic pensions in Senegal. Using the most recent Senegalese households’ data survey, we construct different scenarios of universal and means-tested basic pension’s schemes following levels of generosity. We find that basic pension benefits have sizeable impact on poverty reduction. Moreover, for reasonable benefits levels, basic pensions are fiscally affordable.
